In 2008 Copeland Associates in collaboration with Argon Construction won the design-build contract for re-development of Okara Park in Whangarei into a regional events centre incorporating new grandstands and terraces to accommodate 25,000 people.
Status: Completed in May 2010 for Rugby World Cup 2011.
Locaton: Whangarei NZ
The main building is the 100m long south stand incorporating over 3000 seats, corporate boxes, function and amenity spaces, office and retail areas.
The radial plan maximises visibility for spectators while reinforcing the qualities of the natural arena.
The concrete framed structure is designed to host many community functions and supports a cantilevered tension membrane roof—a first for a New Zealand rugby stadium.
